Yaowen Tong, male, born on Sep 18th, 1972 in Jixian, Tianjin which is 100KM far from Beijing. His ancestors were farmers for generations who few heard painting. When he was a child, he was alone in temper and taciturn, but he knew disgrace clearly and few affiliated with others. During the six years in elementary school, the teacher appraised that: he speaks fewer than the children in the deaf and mute school, but his study was not bad and painting was good. As there was so much persona; time, so he struggled to doodle after the classes, nearly forgetting to have meals. When he was older, he painted and copied the historic character in his sister’s book or the comic strip, and created the comic strip according to the interesting things around him. Later, he sketched and painted real person which all depended on his nature. 
Education:
In contemporary China, none of the colleges could say assuringly that their education is successful, as this is the sign of the whole era. The education of China has went to an urgent situation that needs to stop at once indeed. It was the same as these years before, and the education in art college was in bigger chaos. It is so lucky for me to learn little painting knowledge from so few teachers who influenced me. In fact, painting itself is private thing. Only if you are dogged enough, you can paint by yourself.
Achievement:
1994, he graduated from Tianjin Fine Art Academe as the 1st of the department. In the same year, his work Retiary Still Life was chosen for the 1st China Oil Painting Still Life Exhibition. Later, he was distributed to village of Jixian Town to teach, where there was not the condition to paint. From 1995 to 1996, he was Beijing Drifter for two years and had not stable living place as well as achievement. At the end of 1996, he went back to the former school to teach again and studied English hard, struggling for graduate student exam, paid no attention to painting. 2003, his work was chosen by Newly Cast Cup China Oil Painting Annual Exhibition. In July 2003, he attended the Memory Tower Oil Painting on Easel Four Person Exhibition in Tianjin, then the homonymy exhibition was held in Beijing Yanhuang Art Gallery. In January 2005, he attended the Contemporary Oil Painting Twelve Persons’ Works Exhibition in Beijing. In July 2005, he held Yaowe Tong Individual Exhibition in 798 Gallery in Beijing. In Oct 2005, he attended the Elsewhere，Oil Painting Work Three Persons’ Exhibition in 798
Thousand Year Time Gallery in Beijing. In November 2005, he held Area Yaowen Tong Individual Exhibition in 798, Beijing. In March 2006, he attended the Half Seawater, Half Blaze Oil Painting on Easel Double Persons’ Exhibition in 798 Bronze Period Gallery in Beijing. In Augest 2006, he attended the Sate Space Oil Painting Work Exhibition in Beijing. During these exhibitions, lots of works were collected by the collectors at home and abroad, such as England, German as well as Canada, and one work was stolen during its exhibition.
Idea:
I had experienced to wander and travel in night in the llano and the great river, and I can not forget the life feeling of open, still, holy, lonely, dread as well as human together with the sky. I still remember that when I was very young, my father took me to Beijing to visit the Tian’anmen Square. At that time, someone asked me how big the Tian’anmen Square was. I replied: when you stand in the square, you will know the earth is round. I constitutionally had almost despairing keenness and aspiration to the space as well as the hollowness. And stillness may be related to my childhood life. Though the society was not peace, the brinked soundless state could not be dispelled in my life. But I prefer to this. Near to rinsing, not catch the dust. Not catching is not unconcern. My works’ main content is paying attention to the contemporary hunman’s spirit situation. Only this concerning is by Chinese mold or under Chinese traditional tasting habit: there is sad beauty in sadness, conceit in despair, impavidity in helplessness, vigorous in the mild, clear in the muddy, wateriness in the calm, more wateriness in the wateriness.
